Welcome...

Sportsman Road is gaining in popularity among kayakers, fishermen, bird watchers and those that enjoy this beautiful stretch of tidal marsh as much as we do. Unfortunately, along with the increased popularity comes a variety of problems. Right now our biggest concern is over the growing amount of LITTER surrounding the parking area. There’s some post-Ike debris but most of the trash has been left behind by visitors.

I could spend hours berating those that deliberately trash this area but we’ve decided rather than just complaining - we would try to do something about it. We’ve created the SPORTSMAN ROAD BLOG to enlist the help of others to preserve and protect this special place.

Here are some suggestions on how YOU can help…

Please take all of your trash with you when you leave. (There use to be a barrel and County trash pick-up but frankly it created as many problems as it solved. People generally felt like if they just got their trash “close” to the can it was OK - it wasn’t. The place was just as trashed then as it is now).

Pick up additional trash around the area. (We always bring an empty contractor bag and end our day with a quick trash prick up. BTW - take all trash bags with you when you leave).

Spread the word. (We’re serious about cleaning up the Sportsman Road area. Let others know about this effort and join in).
